0 Idol Gives Back

Hey friends,

Did any of y'all watch Idol Gives Back last night?  I am a BIG AI fan and really enjoyed the show.  This year, I am thinking either Crystal or Lee has a chance at winning the title.  Who do y'all think will win?

Anyways, one of my favorite clips on the show was from David Cook's trip to Ethiopia.  He seems like a really sincere guy to me and it was really moving to see his interaction with the young girls in that village.  My heart just goes out to those girls; even more so now that I know I have two little girls on the way.  I just can't imagine having to grow up in a community that is so big on prostitution.  It is so sad to me that some girls feel like that is their only chance at making it in the world and for those men to take advantage of them like they do.  I am really glad that a show that is so mainstream focuses on these type of issues because it really does create awareness.  When people are aware, they want to help.  With help comes change.

Below is the David Cook clip if you didn't get to watch it last night.  Enjoy!

Till next time, let your light shine!

This afternoon, I had a mini-date with God. Actually, I am still on it and it is quite a nice date. I came home after work and found myself with nothing to do. Raleigh had to run some errands after work but they were to boy places so I opted to not go with him. It is raining so that eliminated taking the dogs on a walk and I really didn't feel like exercising at the gym this afternoon so I came home, put on my comfy clothes, opened my Bible and got to have a good conversation with Jesus Christ. Boy, it feels good to be in the word. I knew I wanted to write a post this week and I was having a hard time trying to come up with some scripture to base it around. My church has a woman's group that is currently doing a series called "Spiritual Boot Camp" that is focused on Ephesians so I decided to start my reading from that book tonight.

Ephesians was written by Paul and that man sure did have some good stuff come out of his mouth. The main verses that I want to share are from chapter five but the whole book of Ephesians (which is only six chapters so you could read one a night with one free night and have read the whole book in a week) is really good, practical information. Ephesians 5 starts out, "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." To me, that one sentence sums up our purpose on earth. What I would like to do over a couple of posts is to really scrutinize what it means to be imitators of God and how we use that in our daily lives.

One way that we can be imitators of God is to make the most out of every opportunity. Ephesians 5:15 states, "Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is."

In high school, how many of us got a talk from our parents before we went out on the weekend? Raleigh has often told me his dad would pull him and his brother aside and say, "Remember whose you are." In saying that, he would always stress to his sons to not only remember their family name but also to remind them to make Christ-like decisions. Now, let's be honest...sometimes that is easier said than done. How often, as teenagers, would our parents give us advice and then we would do the exact opposite? It is so easy to make the wrong decision. The devil is so good at manipulating us into believing that if we do things of this world we will feel better, have more fun, and be a cooler person. We have to stop giving in to his tricks, friends! Before we make decisions, we need to really think if that decision will make us an imitator of Christ or Satan.

We all struggle with this constant battle of good vs. evil. Right now, we are either living in a pit of darkness or know someone that has fallen into the devil's lair with poor choices that have been made on this earth. Paul tells us, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them."

Friends, our sins are washed clean by the blood of Christ. We are dearly loved by God. It doesn't matter how many wrong decisions we have made, we will always be welcomed into the arms of Christ. When he died on the cross for us, all of our poor decisions were automatically forgiven by our Father in Heaven. I love how Ephesians 5:1 states that it was a "fragrant offering." It was a sweet-smelling, loving act of God's grace and kindness shown to us so we could live our lives of love, living out our lives by making the most of every opportunity.

Please take time today to pray for our fellow travelers that are walking in the dark. By the grace of God, let them see the light.

Till next time, let your light shine!

2 Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Hello all my blogger friends; I hope each of you have had a nice time celebrating the holidays! I am excited about it being 2010...not that I didn't love 2009 but I am looking forward to the opportunities that await me in 2010.
I'm not one to really make New Year's resolutions, but one thing that I do want to commit myself to this year is really investing in my walk with Christ and sharing it with you all on this blog. I will be honest...these last couple of weeks I haven't really felt like myself and the lack of activity on this site has been obvious. I apologize for not writing but we have been working on different aspects of the blog.

One new feature that is the most obvious is the design of the site. Raleigh and I collaborated on what we thought would best showcase what we feel when we think of The Uncontainable Truth. Some of the words that came to our minds were jumping, joy, bright, cheerful, and passion. So, the new look is designed around those thoughts. We did a little poll on the right-hand sidebar so take time to tell us your thoughts on our new look. I have to give major kudos to my husband for working on this site...it is amazing what that boy can do in photoshop!

Another new feature is we want this to be more than a blog. We want this to be an area where you can come and find out the latest on books, music, and people that are making a difference in our world. The blog is now officially a website so it can encompass all of those things. The blog is still through blogger so if you come to us through that avenue you will just be redirected but an easy way to get to us is to save the site as theuncontainabletruth.com.

Since we are now a website we wanted to have the page options that are easy for you to click on to find what you are looking for. You will notice in the top right hand corner the different pages. We have an About, Contact, Do, Give, Teach, and Pray. The idea behind these different pages came from New Testament scripture when Jesus was preaching to the masses. Some of the key words that kept popping out to me were "do, give, teach, and pray." These pages are a work in progress but keep checking them because over time they will continue to have more information provided for your use.

There are a lot more cool little things that Raleigh and I will be sharing with you over the next month or so, but we just wanted to officially show off our hard work. Thank you to each and every one of you for coming to this site. It makes my heart swell to think that with each post we are all glorifying our wonderful Savior. In closing, I want to leave you with the mission statement of this site which is, "To joyfully encourage each other to passionately seek the truth spoken by Jesus Christ and to become an uncontainable light humbly serving our world."

Till next time, let your light shine!

Blessings, christen

2 Stepping Stones

Y'all, my puppy dogs can't get enough of me this morning. I swear, they are too cute when they wake up. When Obi starts to wake up, he lifts one leg into the air to stretch it out. It is really funny looking. Little Miss Lu Lu rolls on her back and she uses her front two paws to rub at her face as if she is rubbing the sleep from her eyes. Both love a good belly rub as well to get the day going.

This morning, Lu Lu was ready for me to get up. I know this because after the alarm went off, she started to lick my face. I know some of you out there will think that is gross and but I really don't mind it because she is so little. After she gets up and I am still laying in bed because I'm not ready to get up Obi starts to nudge her with his head. Even though Obi's head is bigger than Lu Lu's whole body he still manages to be gentle with her. Once he starts nudging, she starts to get snappy. It's like she is the big sister that is trying to get ready in the bathroom and her little brother keeps annoying her. It is pretty funny to watch.

After they are both up and going, we walk across the cold hardwood floor to the kitchen to get some food in our bellies. Obi, being the gentleman that he is, allows Lu Lu to eat her food first. If he starts to get close before she is finished, she has no problem telling him to back off. But, most mornings, they do just fine.

Lu Lu came to us my senior year of college for Christmas. She was so tiny and fluffy and she just loves to be next to me. Right now, she is sitting in my lap not bothering me a bit. You see, Lu Lu has been my little companion these last couple of years. After college, I moved two hours north to Birmingham, which is one of the largest cities in Alabama. Growing up, my mom used to always talk about how much she loved Birmingham and I think that is why I always wanted to live there. To us little city girls, this was the BIG city. When traveling north to Birmingham, the closer you get to the city the more the landscape changes. Being from peanut country, all of our land is really flat. But, Birmingham is known as Red Mountain and it has all of these rolling hills that twist and turn with such beautiful scenery down below. Upon moving there, I was so excited because there were tons of places to shop, eat and new places to explore.

At first glance, Birmingham, like all major cities can seem confusing but after time it really doesn't seem that big. My new motto since living there is "You can't find where you are going until you get lost!" The first six months of my stay in Birmingham, I lived in an adequate sized one bedroom apartment. To me, it was my first time living on my own and I loved the space. It was just the right size and for the first time in my life I had a place all to myself (with Lu Lu, of course). I didn't have to split duties with roommates or get frustrated when the dishes were left in the sink. It was up to me to keep the place the way I wanted it to be.

Of course, living by myself in a big new city was part of my parents letting go. My mom was just a phone call away but she was always concerned for my safety. My dad installed a security system in my apartment and one time in the middle of the night it went off. I have never been more scared in my entire life. I held on to Lu Lu so tight I thought I was going to suffocate her. I kept my bedroom lights off and frantically pushed the speed dial button to call my dad. It took him three times to pick up the phone because it was so late. When I heard his voice, I screamed in a soft whisper, "The alarm is going off, what do I do??????" Thank goodness for my dad. He calmed me down and instructed me that I had to get out of bed and walk to my bedroom door to look at the alarm to see if anything had tripped it. I crept out of bed, grabbed the miniature Atlanta Braves red baseball bat from my closet and quietly tip-toed to my door. When I got to the alarm, it wasn't saying that an entry had been opened. So, I dialed the code into the keypad and still nothing was showing up. Dad, being the thinker that he was asked me if Lu Lu was growling. I told him she wasn't so he instructed me to open the bedroom door and turn on all of the lights in the apartment. As I flipped on all of my light switches, everything looked just the way I had left it before bed. Thankfully, it turned out to just be the alarm battery but needless to say I didn't get much sleep that night.

Many of us want to explore new places and take these opportunities while we are young and fresh out of college. We want to have these experiences so we feel more worldly and even more adventurous. It takes courage to live by yourself or in a new city where you have to start from scratch. My advice would be that if you are going to do it, really engage yourself in your new environment. Get lost, get scared, and get a chance to make your own decisions. I am so thankful for that one short year of being completely by myself because it allowed me to have my personal time to develop as an individual. During that year, I was so ready to get married but at the same time I was also preparing myself for marriage. Life is just one big stepping stone and we aren't ready to take the next step until we have a solid footing underneath us.

I do know one thing is for sure: God lays out each step for me to take when it is time. He will be my comforter in the middle of the night when I am scared-stiff and He will be my guide before I take the next step. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-7)

Till next time, let your light shine!
